南丫島的生態資源豐富,動植物品種繁多。藝術家蘇詠寶在島的四周收集植物、海藻及菇菌等各色物種,並對其進行細胞脫除─一種再生醫學技術。被去除活細胞與蛋白質的物種呈半透明的奇特狀態,連同相關的虛構故事集展示於索罟灣島上,邀請觀眾一起編想隱匿於日常的平行世界。餘下軀殼的物種像休眠般蟄伏於容器中,彷彿伺機進行再細胞化,以轉喻的方式連繫着那座隱形的島嶼。
Rich in ecological resources, Lamma Island is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Artist So Wing-po collects different species of plants, algae and fungi from around the island and subjects them to decellularisation – a biomedical engineering process. Having had their living cells and proteins removed, the organisms are left with a somewhat odd, and pale translucent appearance. Together with a collection of related fictitious stories, the de-celled organisms are on display in Sok Kwu Wan, where visitors are invited to enter the imaginary parallel world hidden from everyday life. Lying dormant in containers, the remaining scaffolds of the de-celled organisms seem to be in hibernation, awaiting their opportunity to be repopulated with living cells and connect metonymically with the invisible island.
分別於2007年及2012年在美國聖路易斯華盛頓大學取得藝術學士及香港中文大學取得藝術文學碩士。蘇氏成長於傳統中醫學世家,自幼觀察各種藥材,擅以其熟悉的中醫藥材及日常用品創作大型裝置和雕塑,透過融合中醫傳統哲學思想和她對天文奇觀的浮想,試圖詮釋萬物之間的關聯連繫。
So graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Washington University in Saint Louis in 2007, and with a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2012. Having grown up in a family with generations of Chinese medicine practitioners, she has been acquainted with Chinese herbs since childhood. By incorporating the pharmacological herbs and daily objects into large-scale installation and sculpture, So weaves Chinese medical and philosophical thinking into celestial wonders that reconstruct the correlation of matter and being.
南丫島上的日用品來之不易,故此居民十分珍惜資源,會於社區內交換物資,減少浪費之餘更有助互相連結。廣彩藝術家林斷山明受島民以物換物的生活方式所啟發,向海鮮酒家收集破損的瓷碟加彩翻燒,再以自製的瓷碟作交換。他將收集回來的碎片再凝在樹脂長凳內,為看似走至終結的器皿再次賦與新的意義,亦可視為一種自我接納的過程。
Daily necessities are difficult to come by on Lamma Island as there are no supermarkets and transportation is constrained. Cherishing every bit of resources, Lamma residents often exchange with each other what they have and what they need, which not only reduces waste but also strengthens the community spirit. Inspired by the practice of bartering, guangcai artist Lam Duen Shan Ming collected damaged ceramic ware from the local residents and exchanged them with porcelain plates he crafted himself. The porcelain shards were touched up, fired in a kiln again and set in resin. The ceramic art installation gives a new lease of life to the formerly obsolete tableware as a way of self-acceptance.
自中學時期起一直鍾情於廣彩瓷藝,在學習工藝的同時亦嘗試突破傳統,為廣彩注入香港文化符號。2019年修畢香港理工大學環境及室內設計學士課程,現為道風山基督教叢林的常駐藝術家。林斷山明過往曾參與多個聯展,包括於「港彩流金:二十世紀香港彩瓷」展覽(2018)等。
Lam Duen Shan Ming has developed a passion for guangcai since high school and began his apprenticeship with a porcelain master. He is in pursuit of injecting traditional craft with a contemporary twist, introducing various cultural symbols of Hong Kong into the art of Canton porcelain. Lam Duen Shan Ming graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a Bachelor of Arts in Environment and Interior Design in 2019. He is currently an artist-in-residence at Tao Fung Shan Christian Centre. Over the years, he has taken part in a number of joint exhibitions, including the “Golden Splendours: 20th-Century Painted Porcelains of Hong Kong” (2018) and others.
