Phoebe Hui

Phoebe Hui is an artist, researcher, and art educator based in Hong Kong, China. Her art practice explores how technology alters our perception of reality, drawing on concepts from science, language, and machine learning. She works across various media, including robotics, kinetic sculpture, generative art, and sound. 

Hui holds an MFA from UCLA, an MA from Central Saint Martins, and a BA from City University of Hong Kong. An accomplished educator, she received a Teaching Excellence Award in 2019. Her works and research have been showcased internationally at venues like Ars Electronica, ISEA, MIT Media Lab, Tokyo Wonder Site, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 

Hui has received numerous grants and awards, including Artist of the Year & Young Artist of the Year from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Asian Cultural Council Altius Fellowship, Yale-China Art Fellowship, the Bloomberg Emerging Artist Award. In 2021, Hui was awarded the 5th Audemars Piguet Art Commission for her installation, The Moon is Leaving Us, making her the first female artist in Asia to receive this honour.
