Samson Young: 3D Printed Mini-Golf Course | K11 Victoria Dockside

Samson Young was commissioned by K11 Art Foundation to create a large scale permanent installation for their new retail, art, cultural and dining venue on the Victoria Dockside in Hong Kong’s waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui. For K11 Musea, opening in September 2019, Young designed the Big Big Company (Mini-Golf) installation situated on the 3rd floor as a permanent playable garden featuring 3D printed sculptures. The project features a 4-hole mini-golf course with sitting area, and purchasable golf-clubs and balls.

For the project, MetaObjects facilitated the 3D printing production of the large sculptural pieces and consulted on the design and installation of the benches and artworks in the space. The installation also includes a 12-minute video artwork by the artist.

The brightly coloured sculptures feature elements of the human body and Greek sculptures together with vegetables embedded together. The 3D printing was done using a mix of two colours – pinks, yellows and greens mixed with white and black – as a method of creating a gradient textural effect.
