Wang Xin: PPS | Interactive Installation | K11 & de Sarthe Gallery

For Shanghai based artist Wang Xin’s solo exhibition, Maybe It’s Time To Refresh The Art World A Little Bit, at chi K11 art space in Hong Kong, MetaObjects helped to develop the Personal Preference Setting (PPS) Gallery, an interactive installation that allow visitors to curate the artworks in the show. Visitors can enter their exhibition title and name, as well as, select from a series of settings including, Art Form (Animation, Video, and Digital Art), Artwork Style (Abstract, Realism, and Surrealism), Art Subject (Nature, Art World, and Unconsciousness), Visual Effect (Black & White, Colour, Original, and Pink) and Sound (Natural, Human, No Sound, and Surprise Me). A unique exhibition of artworks will appear across four projections and TV screens within the gallery at a set time for 10 minutes. The title of the exhibition and curator’s name will appear on the screen when their artworks generated based on their selections is on display. The artworks are combined dynamically based on the user’s selections, as well as the title given to the exhibition. A Virtual PPS Gallery is also presented to allow visitors to make a selection and simulate the exhibition on a screen. A list of past exhibitions and selections is also displayed. The work questions the role of curators, artists and visitors in production artworks and exhibitions. Included in the show are also a VR piece and the artist’s installation consisting of pink balls with the contact information of an unknown artist inside. The exhibition was on from 14 March until 5 May 2019.
