Hellen Ascoli
Hellen Ascoli (Guatemala City, 1984) completed her MFA in Sculpture at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012, and is an artist, weaver, and educator; although these first three words are named separately to convey the area of discourse that Ascoli engages with, it could also just say “Weaver” a word that encompasses the other two.
She is currently participating in the 16 Sharjah Biennial: to carry. Previously, she’s had numerous solo and two person shows including 'Flow States- LA TRIENAL 2024' at El Museo del Barrio (2024); 'The Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize Finalists Exhibition', The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, USA (2024); 'We Are Interwoven', Proyectos Ultravioleta at Pamela Weissenberg, CDMX (2024); 'Cien tierras', La Nueva Fábrica, Antigua Guatemala (2023); 'Cien tierras', Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (2021); 'I Woke Up Early to Comb the World', Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City, Guatemala (2017); 'My body is not here (with James Sullivan)', Conduit Gallery, Houston, Texas (2017); and 'Mi cuerpo no está aquí (with James Sullivan)', Concepción 41, Antigua, Guatemala (2016). She currently works as a Professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
